The cashiers were stressed because the corporations treat them like shit. I suspect in the run-up to introducing self-checkout, they made it even worse, to justify charging us to work for them.

That said, I admit that while I hated the idea at first, because people would lose their jobs, I like self-checkout better.

HOWEVER, ideally, we’d have human cashiers, well-treated and well-paid, and enough of them to ensure a short wait. But, that’s not as profitable, so we get what we have now. Because, billionaires are ruining everything, and at an accelerated rate.

  • It’s now clear that most people never cared about freedom of speech, or even understood why it’s important. They only care about freedom of speech as it applies to themselves. I suppose that’s distressingly true for all of the rights we used to take for granted.

Regardless, it’s still law, and the courts are still limping along, so there’s still hope.

I think the biggest hope we have left is that our military leaders swore an oath to the Constitution, and that they’ll honor that if Trump tries to stay in office come 2028. That is, assuming he hasn’t kicked the bucket before then. Exactly what this would look like, I don’t know. I suppose it just means the rigged-elected VP would become President, and we’d still be in a mess.

  • When my son was born, I casually asked his mother (my now-ex-wife) whether he should be circumcised because it was a question on a form. I hadn’t thought about till then, we hadn’t discussed it. She was vehemently against it, and I didn’t care one way or the other, so that was the end of that.

There won’t be any bullying about this, because most boys don’t see each other naked anymore, in P.E. for instance, at least not in the U.S., and most boys are not circumcised now.

Of course, circumcision started with and is tied to religious BS, but in the sixties, when I was born, it was so common even my atheist parents had it done to their two sons. I supposed it was recommended for “health reasons”, I dunno. Also, my dad was, but I don’t know why–I don’t know much about that side of my family.

It’s just how I’ve always been, I’ve never resented them for having it done. I’ve never wished I wasn’t or wondered what I missed, or had any desire to try to recreate it. I’m sure my uncircumcised son feels the same way, we haven’t discussed it.
