  • To add to what carnelian replied, there are actually more than 20 amino acids. Archaea and bacteria domains use a couple different ones, making 23 or so known amino acids used. There are also tons of possible and some (like 700+, that I remember being taught, lol) documented examples of different amino acids, because all that it takes to be an amino acid is the basic carbon structure with the carboxylic acid and the nitrate group in their correct positions, with an R group that defines which amino acid you’re dealing with.

  • Federal doesn’t really allow them to do anything* they want. States actually have laws in place laying out when federal law enforcement can act. My state only allows them arrest powers in felony level crimes, as an example. If they really wanted to push back, they could cause quite the little row. Another example is driving without a driver’s license. My state explicitly allows certain individuals to drive without one, such as military members. Even if you’re a federale, that doesn’t let you do whatever you want.**

*barring our current bitches in the feds not caring about what laws they break, and no one holding them accountable

**again, current practice is to seemingly ignore anything limiting actions

  • Right now they still have to hide behind super pacs and such.

Summarizing the article: two cases determined that money is speech, and corporations have personhood (thus can make speech through money). Citizens united allowed unlimited money to be funneled through quote-unquote ‘independent’ political committees. Now the case is being pushed through that will allow the committees of political parties to coordinate much more closely with a candidate (and if you look at the details of the ‘defense’ it’s horrific), and there’s a case pushing back against bribery convictions (which is itself following a string of high profile bribery cases being overturned by the supreme court), particularly ones tied to gifts and money thrown an officials…

so basically we’re losing the ability to even consider corruption/bribery against officials, and the political parties themselves can be a funnel for a politician. So now you can buy the politician by buying the party, which will lead to such lovely outcomes, I’m sure, and potentially allow much more direct bribery. Shit, the article even references how trump’s $1billion request from oil companies is being ignored. Talk about a fucked up country.

  • Dumbest? geez, it’s hard to choose. She’s a coward (part chihuahua, I’m sure) that can’t beat the terrier genes in her mutt butt, so one night she goes out to the back yard and does her little barking at thin air, just to see if anything nearby gets scared off by it, and lo and behold there’s an opossum! So she is barking, yelping in her little whine-bleat, running away from it, but then turning back and bark/cry/yelping at it while running at it, but when she’s within 10 feet of it she gets even more yelpy and runs away from it, only to turn back again and repeat the whole shebang. I grabbed her by the fourth round, but I’m still just flummoxed at the thought process that must have been running in her tiny brain. It’s like courage the cowardly dog manifested himself for a hot minute: scared but bravely charging the terrible monster while screaming.

She also likes to chase birds, screaming her head off… and we’re not talking about birds on the ground. 300 feet in the air, and she still thinks she will catch them.
