Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.

My net income is about 30k€ a year. I took quite a pay cut going self-employed few years back so I’m barely making ends meet right now but I’m also working less and I’m much more satisfied with what I do. It’s likely that my job prospects will only improve from here so I’ll probably be doing better in few years.
I don’t really consider myself wealthy nor poor. My income isn’t that high but I have decent amount of savings and investments so I don’t really need to stress about finances. I do, but I don’t need to.
Thanks for being the only person making sense in this thread. This is such a depressing group of people to hang with sometimes…
Then why are you even asking for the moral thing to do here?
From a purely moral standpoint it seems rather obvious that the right thing to do is to contact them and let them know about the mistake. I’m quite literally unable to come up with an opposing argument.
I don’t live in the US. That is not my culture. You said that I live in a “my culture is better than yours” bubble. Please explain how my culture where we don’t cut the genitals of children is not objectively better than the alternatives. I don’t understand this insane purity test of yours.
In my culture we don’t cut the genitals of neither boys or girls when they’re born. You care to explain how this isn’t objectively better than the alternatives?
I don’t think you’re doing anyone a service by equating male circumcision with female genital mutilation. I think my response was nuanced enough, and I don’t have anything more to add.
It’s way too early to say that I have fixed it yet, but I quit a severe, two decade long porn addiction and a decade long daily weed smoking cold turkey a little over month ago and haven’t looked back. I might go back to occasional weed smoking at some point once I’ve truly tasted what life feels like without but with porn I’m not sure if I can go back without it spiraling out of control again.
I’ve never even considered it, nor has it ever bothered me or my partners in any way, because it’s the norm here.
However, if I lived in the US, I’d probably do it for the reasons you mentioned - it’s the cultural norm there, and not doing it might lead to bullying or awkward reactions. The main issue, of course, is making that choice for him rather than letting him decide later. But yeah, if you’re going to do it, better sooner than later.
I like all kinds of tech, gadgets, tools and machinery. Cars are just one part of that. I’d like to have an excavator too if I could afford one and justify buing it, but I don’t. Car however, I have need for so why not go and buy one that you actually enjoy driving and looking at rather than something that just gets the job done. I don’t really spend a huge amount of money on it. My truck cost me 10k€ and the maintenance + fuel + insurance costs for the 7 years I’ve had it are around 350€/month. I can imagine myself spending more on offroad mods and such but I just have no need for that currently.
Cynicism is the number one thing I dislike about social media commentary. I think a lot of people believe pessimism makes them look smart, but in my view, it just poisons the air for everyone.
My understanding is that they’re refined in different parts of the refinery. The drones Ukraine uses don’t carry large payloads; they rely on igniting whatever they hit. Diesel and crude are far less volatile than gasoline, so you’re more likely to cause a big fire by hitting the gasoline-processing part of the refinery. If you throw a match into a puddle of diesel or crude, nothing happens. Refining gasoline is also more complex and sensitive process and thus easier to disrupt. Russia mostly refines gasoline for domestic needs, whereas diesel is kept in much larger storage - so striking gasoline refining capacity has a quicker impact on supply lines and is felt by the common people.
Then explain why you disagree instead of coming at them with ad-hominem.
Tanks run on diesel though. Ukraine is hitting the gasoline refineries and storage.
Most things I enjoy are just hard enough that I need to really concentrate but not so hard that it’s overwhelming. It’s not that I suck at these things but broadly speaking, if something is completely effortless to me then it’s probably not that enjoyable.
I actually get mildly irritated when people do that. If we’re just chatting and I start wondering aloud about some trivial event or person, and the other person immediately pulls out their phone to Google it, I find it a bit annoying. It’s almost never anything that important. Let’s at least dig into our memories for a bit and bounce around guesses before looking it up. I’m just chatting - no need to “call a friend” to find out which movie had Denzel Washington in it.
People are desperately combing through comments, looking for something to be outraged about. That’s what happens in echo chambers - when the outgroup isn’t around to be attacked, people start eating their own. It turns into this insane purity spiral where nobody is ever good enough.
