  • One of the South American variants of Spanish, probably Argentinian. And I say that despite not speaking any Spanish.

The language itself is a contact language and heavily influenced by centuries of cohabitation with speakers of Arabic. That simplified a lot of the Indo-European complexities away.

The phonology - the sounds - of the language are clear and predictable and sufficiently different that a non-native speaker and their accent are not too troublesome in comprehension.

The language itself is already a world language, ranking 4th in number of native speakers.

I like the suggestion of Esperanto, which I do personally speak and which has all the advantages above, except already being a world language.

  • “Radule Bojovic violated our nation’s laws and was living ILLEGALLY in the United States for 10 years—what kind of police department gives criminal illegal aliens badges and guns? It’s a felony for aliens to even possess a firearm. A law enforcement officer who is actively breaking the law,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin

That’s how far America is straying from the Rule of Law: this guy has not been found to be illegally in the United States by a Court of Law. As a result, he is not living ILLEGALLY in the United States and is not a criminal. An Assistant Secretary to the Department of Homeland Security should know this, and would have known this in any past Administration of the United States of America.

  • I’ve had great experiences with Brother laser printers, until my color laser started refusing 3rd party cartridges. Someone else reported there was a firmware update that made that happen, Brother swears they didn’t do anything.

For that reason, I would not buy a connected printer, ever. The setup I have now is a dumb printer connected to my local network using an RPi Zero W as print server. I would do it this way even if the printer had WiFi connectivity.

  • were they supposed to just work for you for fraction of a cost forever and don’t learn anything?

It was a rhetorical question, but they actually really believed that. Racism may have been a huge part of it: People as backwards as “China man” would never be able to come up with complicated tasks like setting up a factory on their own.

Anyone not racist saw it coming a thousand miles away. It’s weird how much bigotry there was and is in the C-suite of major corporations.

  • Don’t judge them too harshly. If everybody surrounding you starts talking about how Portland turned into a shithole, you’d start eventually believing it, too. I know people that live 20 km South of San Francisco, who claimed they would not come see me in town when I was visiting because it was too dangerous. They were baffled not only that I walked everywhere, but that I survived the ordeal unscathed.

Propaganda is strangely powerful. I still remember the run-up to the Iraq War, when Bush et al. were talking about weapons of mass destruction and everybody believed them. I thought to myself: if the Iranians are not concerned about Iraqi WMDs, and they are sworm enemies and right next to each other, why should anyone else be?
