Holy ship
This is stunning, I love the grain! EDIT: you answered my question already, itâs oak!
Wait. Did you post this just to brag how big your D is?
I had never thought about what the D designation and the size of the ship might be suggesting until I saw the title of this post. I canât stop laughing, and will probably forever giggle every time TNG âcomes upâ in conversation.
Gotta be 18 inches, at least.
absolutely beautiful! man I wish Star Trek would do designs like this again instead of âHow can we redesign the Constitution Class for the umpteenth time?â
NCC-1701 (refit) and A are my favorite designs of all time. The original shape with the refitâs nacelle design just looks so sleek without being too over the top. I donât like the newer ships after TNG: they look overly scifiâd.
oh donât get me wrong I absolutely love the refit and A. totally. I just donât want to see themâŠagainâŠon ânewâ stuff ala the Enterprise-G.
And youâre right about the ships post TNG. They went from âwe love exploringâ to âwe gotta fight the dominion and the borg and our ships need to look the partâ Just give me more of the curvy yet powerful looking designs from TNG again. And I mean sure itâs not like there were many in TNG, hell the Nebula was just a Galaxy with no neck and an upsidedown stardrive but god dammit I liked it.
Love me a Miranda or Nebula class. I just think they should go faster than they do because double the nacelles
Are you thinking Constellation or Cheyenne class?
Miranda had 2 nacelles, EG., USS Reliant.
Picardâs Stargazer was Constellation class.
Nebula class are dang cool, but they had 2 nacelles. Phoenix had a circular AWACS-looking sensor pod mounted above the saucer, and Sutherland had a triangular weapons platform.
Might be. I guess I havenât nerded out on Star Trek enough recently
But with detached/magnetic nacelles, you can turn your ship faster! /s
I do like the JJ Abrams Enterprise. Guilty pleasure.
The hot rod look on the front of the nacells and matching lower decks speak to design awareness. Just curvy enough without making it unrecognizable.
I loved the aesthetics of those films. The ship, the uniforms, and the Klingons. And Chris Pine clearly loves the role.
Karl Urban is also great
I forgot about him in those, lol. Yes, and he also most definitely loves that role, if heâs to be believed.
Love your D! Iâm a bit partial to Excelsior class ships, but Galaxy is good too.
Thanks! The Excelsior was actually the first one I made :)
It always looks like a boat to me
Obligatory âthatâs what she said!â
What a firm and beautiful D you have.
And what shapely and enticing nacelles.
Oh my đ„”
OH! *Myyy!!!*
Iâm being drawn in⊠as if by some sort of
magneticmajestic field âšthis is awesome work.
outta curosity, how do you feel about the Nova and Sydney classes?
They may be my favorites, lol. Nova because itâs sleak and actually makes sense as a science platform. (unlike the galaxy class. too big, too resource intensive, too many crew. and what the hell is with all the families on board getting shot at?)
I like the Sydney because itâs form follows function. itâs boxy, ugly, utilitarian. but it acutally makes sense. (Seriously⊠what the hellâs with the dâs compound curves? tons of wasted internal volume⊠exessive structural elements. Tons of vulnerabilities.)
Big fan of the Nova - it makes so much sense as a design from the same era as the Intrepid, though it does betray its origins as a Defiant concept to me, would work very well as a little agile warship.
The Sydney, ehh I can take or leave, it always felt a bit too kitbashy, but they did make a nice and balanced design despite that
Iâm a big fan of all the weird little ships the federation scrambled to produce because of the borg.
You got the defiant, sure. but you also have the Akira and the Nova and their who-knows-how-many variations. it was like morons woke up and realized maybe they really do need warships and started throwing pasta at the wall to see what stuck.
A compound curve and beautifully wasted space sends a message to other culturesâŠwe can afford this. Donât start nothinâ.
âDonât start nothin with the Federation, or weâll finish it with our heavily-armed conference centreâ
The Universe class will bankrupt you for a slab of oak that big.
Yeah, but once youâve gone there you can never go backâŠ
Gorgeous work!
I assume this was carved from the Captainâs Log.
Give it to him, he needs a new one.

But for real, your ship model looks nice.
Oh my god that is fucking beautifulâŠ.
Glad you like it! Thanks for all the memes â€ïž
How the fuck could I not? That thing is a work of art. The amount of skill and talent required to do that is off the charts. Youâre thankin me for just posting shit I have saved when I can do nothing but thank you for making something that stunning.
This looks incredible! How long did it take you and how much of this kind of thing have you done before? I imagine quite a bit for this kind of result.
Thanks! Took a couple of weeks in between other projects. Yeah this is my 10th or 12th or something, my insta has some others, link on my profile đ
âNo one wants the fat ones.â
Speak for yourself! D for life!
Nice wood, bro.
Beautiful. So beautiful
Awesome!
This is superb. Absolutely superb.
Very unique hobby. Excellent execution. Awesome!
Big D
Is this all really one piece like it looks?
Itâs made from a few sections - saucer, 2 piece neck, engineering hull, pylons, dictated by the sizes of timber I had
It looks like the saucer might detach, as it should!
Sadly it doesnât, thatâs just the join between sections - I did look into it, but couldnât find a way that would simultaneously hold it firmly together, let it detach when needed, and be invisible from the outside.
Itâs quite a big model and really front-heavy thanks to how much saucer there is, so it had to all be one piece really
Thatâs awesome!
