As evidence, the lawsuit cites unnamed โcourageous whistleblowersโ who allege that WhatsApp and Meta employees can request to view a userโs messages through a simple process, thus bypassing the appโs end-to-end encryption. โA worker need only send a โtaskโ (i.e., request via Metaโs internal system) to a Meta engineer with an explanation that they need access to WhatsApp messages for their job,โ the lawsuit claims. โThe Meta engineering team will then grant access โ often without any scrutiny at all โ and the workerโs workstation will then have a new window or widget available that can pull up any WhatsApp userโs messages based on the userโs User ID number, which is unique to a user but identical across all Meta products.โ
