Looking down the nave with the gigantic barrel vault of the ceiling overhead, its only decoration being raised edges or frames dividing it into oval and rectangular sections. The ceiling and the rectangular arched columns supporting it are white. To the left and right are large red and gold altarpieces of side chapels. At center in the distance is the very large church altarpiece, with gold ornament and red cloth background.

Holy Name Cathedral, Chicago, Illinois [OC]

View down the nave of the beautiful and brightly-lit church, the floor of which has geometrical designs and two rows of pews stretching into the distance. Like a European cathedral, it has two aisles marked by ribbed stone columns supporting pointed arches. Above the arches are what look like walls of green marble panels and, above them, small stained glass windows. The ceiling is most distinctive, made entirely of some sort of dark wood carved or positioned to resemble ribbing which forms a grid design over the entire ceiling. In the distance are the windows of the curving wall of the apse.

[Microblog] Basilica of SS

Looking from the altar towards the organ, which is high overhead and has open panels with religious scenes that cover the pipes when closed. Below it is a roundel window. The walls and ceiling are the familiar white with prominent brown ribbing/vaulting, and there are two rows of pews running from the foreground almost to the (organ) wall.

Curved wall of a Lady Chapel with wallpaper with crosses and seals and four tall stained glass windows, two on each side of an inset shrine at center with a statue of the Virgin holding the Christ child. The ceiling is a deep-perspective view into a cloud/heaven with the saints, martyrs, bishops, etc. standing and looking on within the cloud. On the floor at center, below the Virgin statue, is a gold altar in the shape of a spoked wheel that has a blue-green curtain behind it. In front of the altar is a small nativity scene (photo from December).
