If you swallow too much at once it overextends the esophagus. This causes it to spasm. That is why it hurts sometimes.
Swallow what? đł
Itâs a bird.
European or African?
Uh, I donât know that
zoimmnnggg
Both. Thatâs why itâs too much.
European, or African?
European or, African?
European, or, African?
Laden? Or unladen?
Bin laden or Lin Biden?
My favourite little bird, the lowly barn swallow. Incredibly social, they gather on the power lines and twitter at each other when a storm is coming. Lightning fast, and voracious mosquito eaters, and they keep their nests incredibly clean, carrying out their droppings from the building.
I love barn swallows.
So does their mom?
European or African?
PENIS
I already learned this from your dad
Are you saying you throat goated my dad?
Jokes on you, I get muscle spasms all the time.
Itâs a bolus â a ball-shaped mass of liquid â moving down the throat via peristalsis. The muscles just happened to have formed the liquid into a sphere, liquids cannot be compressed, so the peristaltic muscles are trying to squeeze something that canât be squeezed. The muscles donât know that, squeeze anyway, and that pain is the result.
well then someone should fix it since we clearly know the cause and itâs reproducible. we filed this issue like 300,000 years ago and itâs still open, and Iâve seen it on other MAMMALX platforms like cat and dog
thank you for volunteering to fix this issue!
So much for intelligent design eh?
Theodicy is the the teological conundrum of how to square Godâs omnipotence (can do anything) and omnibenevolence (absolute good) with the existence of evil in the world. A shitton of teologicians and philosophers tried to tackle the problem and usually failed miserably. Personally I never found any explanation to be convincing, until I came up with one and I honestly believe it is the only possible one.
What if God just⊠isnât very clever? Heâs doing his best, ok?!
Now, you may ask - if heâs omnipotent, couldnât he increase his own intelligence? Yes he could. But heâs too stupid to realise that =(
Ah the Dunning-Kruger theodicy, I like it
I had a philosophy professor who espoused this view, and I tend to agree.
âTeologicalâ?
We donât write the H there in my native Czech and Iâm very hungover today, so I apparently fucked it up twice. Interesting that I did write âtheodicyâ correctly (I hope)
I sometimes catch myself writing âKanadaâ instead of Canada when not paying attention too.
Ah, I was hoping it was more âteâ as in âteaâ to imply making shit âwisdomâ up while looking at the bottom of a cup, or as in the Latin accusative/ablative âyouâ to imply Truthâą via argumentum ad populum. đ€Șđ€
Itâs in the next release.
Unfortunately there is no path forward without full uninstall, reinstall.

Iâve always had it with soda, and I thought I had swallowed in such a way that the CO2 was all trying to fizz out at once. Feels like youâve stubbed your esophagus.
Out of curiosity, do you lack the ability to burp?
I used to get that issue with soda and I also used to not be able to burp
Thereâs actually a real treatment for it now
On the off chance you canât burp, try looking (or try having your doctor look) into âdysfunction of the belch reflexâ
I can burp. But not during a swallow. Esophagus is half-duplex.
I call it swallowing a square because thatâs what it feels like to me.
Me too from this moment on. Youâve described it perfectly.
You mean âcubeâ?
Expecting that everyone else exists in the third dimension is kinda ableist tbh.
Ha! It do be facts, tho.
Swallowing a cube doesnât have quite the same ring to it as swallowing a square though!
There is a certain flow to it, certainly. đ€Ł
Oh man! Iâd love it if there was a translation from German, Hungarian, Japanese, or the like that had this description for this. You nailed it.
German: Quadrat verschluckt
Haitian Creole: vale yon kare
Hawaiian: ale i ka huinaha
Hungarian: nyelt egy négyzetet
Icelandic : gleypti ferning
Japanese: ćè§ăéŁČăżèŸŒăă (*Shikaku o nomikonda) Scottish Gaelic : *shluig e cearnag* Ukranian: ĐżŃĐŸĐșĐŸĐČŃĐœŃĐČ ĐșĐČаЎŃĐ°Ń (prokovtnuv kvadrat*)
FWIW đ€·đŒââïžđ€
Usually happens when you are in a rush or are not paying attention. I have that happen to me when Iâm rushing out the door and decide to drink a bit of water or a coffee but want to hurry up. Then you lose any amount of time you were trying to save by standing there imagining what they will be writing on your tombstone.
âIâm probably going to dieâ
Same feeling I get when I swallow an irregular shaped piece of food or one of those elongated multivitamin pills and the object decides to go down SIDEWAYS. You can feel it getting lodged at the back of your throat and then you feel it slowly painfully sliding down your esophagus as you start imagining who will be attending your funeral and what they will be saying for your eulogy.
I always picture a swashbuckling pirate jumping down my throat, using his knife to slow down his decent like in the cartoons when they did it to the sails on the ship. â ïž
I just start to imagine my lungs full of water
This has happened a few times in my life. Feels kinda like when you use a muscle wrong and it starts cramping, just that in this case I somehow swallowed wrong. At least it doesnât last for very long. Once my leg started cramping while I was half-asleep. Fuck that hurt for what felt like 5 minutes.
Shit. My first cramp was when I was lying in bed half asleep. My left calf started cramping, but I had no clue what was going on. I was too scared/in pain to attempt to touch it. I just stated in pain for probably 5 minutes but it felt longer. That shit sucked.
Now I can recognize it when it first starts and massage the fuck outta it before it gets really bad.
I have identified certain positions and stretches that are guaranteed to cause a muscle spasms, and try to avoid them.
I have to sleep with my feet over the end of the bed, in an L shape, because if I sleep with my foot extended, I WILL get hit with a screaming cramp out of a deep sleep. No matter how big a bed is, I have to sleep toward the end, so my feet can hang over.
I also have to be careful stretching. Calf muscles are always vulnerable, but itâs easy to pull a muscle along the ribcage that will ache for a week or so.
Iâve cycled from in shape to out of shape and back again several times in my life, but being prone to muscle spasms has been constant throughout all of it.
Iâm coming for you Elizabeth!

When I eat Fries too fast and have nothing to drink nearby.
Any bread product for me. No idea why. 1 sip of water and Iâm completely normal, and can keep eating bread no issue. Itâs bizarre!
This is called dysphagia when it becomes a problem.
Is this water in lung or what?
Could be sudden gas pocket. Idk though.
Like those nuclear mantis shrimp detonations? That makes a lot of sense
For me there are times where I âdrink too hardâ, and it leaves some nasty chest pain. Rare, but I hate when it happens.
Maybe? Or drinking cold water after not eating anything for a long time?
No. Itâs this weird thing that sometimes if you swallow badly it really fucking hurts. Water goes to your stomach, thereâs no coughing or anything. It just hurts like you swallowed your tonsils or something.
Good luck with that
I think it is hiccup muscle involved, but Iâm also at the biological understanding level of an extra terrestrial
No, itâs more like swallowing an air bubble thatâs too big.
I have that sometimes! Any idea what it is?
every
fucking
time
See a doctor
donât worry it just happened to me today and Iâve overreacted a bit
Doc told me it was related to acid reflux in my case and put me on some prescription meds.
Oh good after all these years I thought it was just me that experienced this.
Same. Reading the comments is actually a huge relief.
It has taken way to long for someone bringing this up online, forcing me to spread the word offline.
Itâs called âEckiger Schluckâ, I came up with the name and I refuse any facts indicating that this term is incorrect! Looking at you @x@piefed.world
Sounds about right
Commenting because I like anything from TLOU 1 and Pedro.
