Hi there, I am struggling with moving a space from one home server to another. By that I mean, I want my space to “move” from #myspace:oldmatrix.org to #myspace:newmatrix.org.

I am trying to increase the upload limit on my matrix server. I would like to push it to 500MB, but it keeps failing the upload past ~180MB. There is very little information about the failure, the client just says “Unkown error”, nginx says “error 499”, which means the client disconnected to quickly. Additionally, trying to recreate the failure with curl just results in a success, so the issue seems to be with the client. I tried with element-web, element desktop, element x and cinny and they all have this issue.

Are there ressources that help you find the right Matrix server software in 2026?

Hey All - I’ve been trying to deploy the Ansible Matrix (https://github.com/spantaleev/matrix-docker-ansible-deploy) deployment via the quick start guide for a few days now with the hybrid web server deployment model, but it just isn’t working properly for some reason.

Heyho, in the past we used Discord with OBS for streaming. That allowed us to capture each persons video and audio separately afaik. Is capturing video and audio separately also possible in Matrix?

anyone here using or has recently used #matrix ?I'm trying to see what the current state of the whole thing is (both the protocol and element) because my last experience with matrix is back when element was still called riot and I had several things that brushed me off hard from usability and UI.

I’m trying to get away from Discord’s nonsense, but from what I can see it seems like Synapse is still very slow.

Let’s not lie to ourselves about it : Matrix is slow.

Even the matrix homeserver is pretty dead, days between messages

I’ve stumbled through getting a synapse server up and running with mas connecting to my authentik server behind nginx using docker compose.

Am I supposed to receive notifications?

The Matrix.org homeserver [2] is currently experiencing a “major outage” [1.1] — the server is currently offline [1.3]. The timeline of events is currently (2025-09-03T00:14Z) as follows:

For a while, I was running a conduwuit server. Conduwuit has been abandoned, and I wanted to migrate my server to upstream Conduit.

When I try, I get a generic error saying “Unable to publish room, there was an error publishing this room.”

I don’t know who might need this in the future, but I’m setting up a bot account for my BT Free space. I’ve never done this before and I wanted to document it a bit for myself or anyone else that is interested in the future.

I set up a Cinny instance. If I link users directly to the Cinny instance it prompts them to create an account on my Matrix server but then they have to manually search for the space to join. If I grab the link directly to my space from Cinny, it links to matrix.to as an intermediary, which will prompt them to sign up with the matrix.org instance, which I DO NOT WANT. Is there no way to send an invite directly from/to my Cinny instance/space? You can only send invites via matrix.to?

id like to just hang out. like on mumble. but I’m using matrix now… anyone know of an active room or willing to join one?

Signal has a “Note to Self” option which basically lets you send texts to yourself for reminders, etc. Is there a way to do this with any of the various Matrix clients, and if so how?

I am facing a really weird issue with Element Call on my Matrix Dendrite server. It seems that only the person initiating the call can unmute and use videochat. The recipient of the call cannot talk even when unmuted or show video when enabled.

I was able to finally get sliding sync up and running with my dendrite server!

I am hosting a Dendrite homeserver. However, I’m not happy with the pace of development of the software and I’d like to switch to Synapse. Is there a documented way to migrate the data (rooms, chat history, users) from Dendrite to Synapse? I’ve used matrix-docker-ansible-deploy to set it up.

I decided to bite the bullet and switch from dendrite to conduit as many of you have suggested. The only problem is I cannot get my calls to connect. It just says “call connecting…” But never does. I figured it was a turn server issue but if I type in the secret key wrong in my config file calls don’t pop up at all. So it is connecting to it to some extent.

I have been reading about the new OIDC system (since Element now has a QR code login). I can’t seem to understand the purpose of it, as it seems that Matrix already has all of the features wanted, but more simple. Why would there need to be a new OIDC system, if signing in with services with Google or GitHub is already supported and configurable per homeserver? Why would regular user+password login need to be reimplemented, but now require a website to login instead of being able to login through something like a terminal?

Is this a setting in element? Is this a feature of matrix?

I have been hearing that matrix dendrite is no longer being worked on (at least unless people volunteer). I know that you cannot use element x which isn’t a big loss for me. I only plan to use it for family, friends, possibly friends and family of friends.

Does any data get sent to matrix hq or element?
